Elephant Artist Japatee

Japatee Lets Me Hold His Leg

Name: Japatee (aka Ngam)

Sex: Male

Born: 1993

Origin

He was donated to the Thai Elephant Conservation Center by Jerusalem Zoo and flown across Asia in a Jumbo jet, incidentally.

Nature

Japatee is a normal, well-behaved elephant. If his mahout makes loud noises he usually runs away from him, but if his mahout does not follow after him, he soon returns of his own accord. He is not used to the forest around the Center because he was raised as a baby in the zoo.

Special Story

Japatee’s trunk and tail are both stunted and hairy. He makes up for these defects by having the most beautiful long white tusks. He has a nickname ‘Phlai Ngam’, which in Thai means ‘Beautiful Tusks’.

...stunted and hairy...he has a nickname meaning 'Beautiful Tusks'.”

Artistic Talents

Japatee is a good artist who likes to paint abstract art. He changes his style with his mood, but favours mostly vertical brushstrokes with occasional flourishes.

Mahout

Japatee’s mahout is 33 year old Pichit Thaijaroen, born March 1972. Pichit joined the Center at age 22. He is married to Gulab and has no children.
