Origin

The Thai Elephant Conservation Center, Lampang, Thailand.

Nature

She is a sensitive elephant and easily scared by loud noises, sudden movements and particularly by dogs.

Special Story

Pungkod is a favourite of Home Stay visitors who come to the Center to train as mahouts and work with the elephants for a while. She is very friendly with all visitors (as long as they don’t do something to frighten her).

Artistic Talents

Pungkod was first introduced to The Elephant Art Gallery in June 2009 and we are still working with her to develop her talents. Her first painting showed a rather erratic, frenzied style and we are waiting to see if this will settle in time as she 'finds herself' in her art.

Mahout

Pungkod’s mahout is Tiam Chaikeaw, Lei Tongsok, who was born in March 1972. Lei came to the Center as a mahout at the age of 30. He is married to Neatnapa and they have one child.
