"The Elephant Art Gallery is a blend of elephant art, and animal conservation that collectively makes an outstanding contribution to both the conscience and the imagination". Quotation from Inkless Magazine, February 2010.
TEAG produces all its paintings with the elephant artists at the Elephant Art Academy at the Thai Elephant Conservation Center (National Elephant Institute).
TEAG was started in the year 2000 by Henry Quick, the managing director of HQ Group, a company that makes art paper and runs an art gallery in Chiang Mai. He began showing elephant paintings alongside paintings by humans at HQ Art Gallery in early 2000. This was the first commercial art gallery in Thailand to permanently display 'real art' by elephants, so it was quite an adventure.
"We created this new website … as an educational tool to promote elephant conservation and art.
In 2002 we launched the first and original elephant art gallery website to show this wonderful work to the world. The project began to develop a momentum of its own. The next major development came in January 2006 when TEAG was made into a separate entity. At that point we created this new website not only to sell paintings, but also as an educational tool to promote elephant conservation and art.
After six more years of steady growth, in 2012 we moved all sales and distribution from Thailand to the USA. This arrangement enables us to better serve our customers and to promote the cause that we support, while also allowing our highly experienced elephant art production team in Thailand to concentrate on what they do best.
My name is Paul Smit and I am the General Manager of TEAG, based in Hermosa Beach, CA. I am responsible for sales and distribution and my goal is to broaden the awareness of elephant conservation in the United States and beyond. I studied International Relations and Business at the University of Southern California, and I am dedicated to improving the world around us by helping projects such as this gain publicity and support.
My counterpart, Issaraporn Kaewthanasawad, directs the production team in Thailand. She is Thai, born in Chiang Mai, graduated from Chiang Mai Commercial College and Bangkok Thonburi University and has been associated with the elephant art project since it started. She is a die-hard lover of elephants and has grown used to seeing them around her since she was a child. Issaraporn works directly with the elephants on every single TEAG painting you see in our Gallery and personally selects the special paintings featured in our Budget Page.
We have always supplied our own special handmade art paper, paints and art materials and have worked directly with the elephant artists in our own unique way to create the very best quality elephant artworks available anywhere in the world. We are not re-sellers of other people's work and furthermore paintings produced by TEAG are different from other elephant artworks that are produced elsewhere.
"We manage the entire process from paint color mixing, to the type of paper used, the choice of artist and supervision of the painting itself and then finally to the packaging and shipping. That's an awesome depth of involvement and quality control that sets us apart."
We are able to manage the entire process from paint color mixing, to the type of paper used, the choice of artist and supervision of the painting itself and then finally to the packaging and shipping. That's an awesome depth of involvement and quality control that makes all the difference in the quality of the final product and sets us apart from the competition.
The impact we have had in creating awareness around the world has been amazing. Most of our work is in correspondence with educational institutions, animal conservation specialists, and a great many students of all ages from all over the world. Examples of our genuine art by elephants have appeared in museums and have been featured in children's educational textbooks in the USA. In addition we have featured in international in-flight magazines, art magazines, countless web articles, international television spots and even in the global launch of a new fragrance by Giorgio Armani.
